The All-New Fantasy Horror Saga from Michael Chaves & Matthew Roberts Arrives April 22
Today Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics revealed covers from the variant series by renowned artist Nimit Malavia (The New Gods) for Corpse Knight.
The debut issue of the original new series from the visionary team of writer/co-creator Michael Chaves (The Conjuring Franchise), artist/co-creator Matthew Roberts (Universal Monsters: Creature from The Black Lagoon Lives!), colorist Rico Renzi (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), and letterer Pat Brosseau (Creepshow), hits comic book shops on April 22, 2026, perfect for fans of White Sky, King Spawn and The Darkness.
The themed covers by Nimit Malavia each feature a Corpse Knight character framed by stunning stained glass and will be available as 1:25 incentive variants across all six issues of the original new series.
“From the outset, we knew we wanted to find a way to focus on the characters, and our initial conversations were around the idea of doing some kind of faux renaissance portraits for each of the mains,” said cover artist Nimit Malavia. “Given the time period, players involved in the story (Joan especially), and the direct connection to life and miraculous rebirth, it felt like an organic step to give each of the characters a saint-like aura / treatment.”
Malavia continued, “As I started to explore more of the idea of saintly portraits and thinking how we could take this further than just the style, that’s when stained glass imagery came up. It’s not often that you get to play with religious iconography in comics, so I started researching and realized it would be a perfect fit. Not only does it connect thematically, but it gave us a framework and secondary level to sneak in iconography and subtle nods to the story and themes with the stained glass and ornamentation. It also had the added bonus of allowing us to directly incorporate our title into the cover in a seamless way. With all these pillars aligning, it felt like the perfect vehicle.”
War ravages France, but a young girl named Foy lives in relative peace with her father… until tragedy strikes. As Foy struggles to fend for herself, she’s granted a miracle—her father returns from the dead to protect her.
Now, they embark on a sacred quest, confronting murderers, wild animals, wandering armies, and black magic plaguing the countryside. As Foy comes face to face with the dark side of miracles and the secrets of the Corpse Knight, she must question if the man by her side has always been a monster…
In addition to the 1:25 incentive variant cover by Nimit Malavia, Corpse Knight #1 has a main cover by Matthew Roberts and Rico Renzi, an open to order variant by Jae Lee (Thundercats), a 1:10 incentive “storybook” themed cover by Tonči Zonjić (Lobster Johnson), a 1:50 incentive cover by Andrea Milana (Cobra Commander), a 1:100 foil incentive cover by Stephanie Hans (DIE), a die-cut helmet cover by Matthew Roberts, a blank sketch cover, and an I Hate Fairyland Team-Up variant by Stipan Moran (20th Century Men).
