Punk Mambo has attitude, it’s a great read and issue 3 is now out, from Valiant!

She’s a Voodoo Priestess from the London Punk Scene, Pink hair, and tough. She’s an outcast, but perhaps she’s Voodoo’s last hope!

Punk Mambo is written by Cullen Bunn, and illustrated by Adam Gorham, with colours by José Villarrubia. And man, it is a gorgeous book. The characters have ‘heft’, you know wha’ I mean? I mean, a blocky bloke LOOKS like he’s powerful. He walks heavy, he stands heavy. And Punk Mambo, she’s got swagger. it’s in the dialogue, it’s in the footwork. Don’t watch the wrists, watch the eyes. The eyes of a Voodoo Priestess!!

I loved this issue. Cullen Bunn writes so well! Punk Mambo can’t do right. She’s being badmouthed and criticized. Set up by those she is trying to help. And that’s where drama comes to steal your cigarettes: where the lead characters get into trouble and stay there. Unless there’s somewhere to go with even deeper trouble!

Check out this issue: strong writing, original twists, great figures, scenarios and fights, and excellent subdued colouring!

Valiant, Punk Mambo #3, $3.99 for 19 pages of content. Rated Teen +

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
