Marvel’s master of martial arts comes home in an action-packed and fun film!
This fall Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hit the ground running. I ventured out to actually see this in the theaters and really glad I did. I loved this film and you can read my review here. I already knew I had this film for my home collection, so when Disney offered me the chance to review the home version, I jumped at the chance.
As I said, I loved this film. There was a great blend of action and humor. Lead actor Simu Liu does an excellent job and I really hope this pushes him into more mainstream films like it has for other Marvel film actors. In fact, all the actors did a fantastic job
One of the great things about modern movies is that’s it’s a lot easier to make a digital copy. I had the digital download, and the copy was seamless. The print and sound were just as good as they were in the theater. Best of all it keeps the film’s natural aspect ratio.
The film comes with a nice gag reel. It’s enjoyable for the cast to have fun on the set.
There is a feature called Building a Legacy which goes behind the scenes and lets you see how Shang-Chhi made it to the big screen. It’s pretty interesting to see the progression from concept to finished product.
The other feature is Family Ties, which goes into detail about the father-son relationship between Shang-Chi and his father Xu Wenwu. There is a lot of relatable things in here about family dynamics.
There are 11 deleted scenes. In watching them I can understand why some were removed from the finished project. They didn’t work into the overall tone of the story. While others really could have fit in nicely.
Finally, you can watch the film with audio commentary with director Destin Daniel Cretton and screenwriter Dave Callaham. I always enjoy these commentaries and get inside the creator’s heads. Seeing what’s involved with the creative process.
I am so glad to have Shang-Chi as part of my collection. It’s such a great film and a nice addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently available on digital download and will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on November 30.
