This issue is just as hilarious and as endearing as the previous issue. This issue drives home why Mahfood is great at what he does and should there ever be a network for an adaptation of his work, Adult Swim would be the perfect network for it. The writing is snappy and humorous as it is topsy turvy in all the right ways. From the hilarious commentary of the henchmen to the snappy quips and flashback moments of regret as Dio suffers from the consequences of her journey to retrieve her ex-boyfriend’s ashes, or Gordi and Bescu’s attempt to rescue Dio, it’s just a delight to read a book that doesn’t take itself to seriously, yet is simultaneously deep despite all the fantastical sci-fi fantasy elements that make up the world of this mini-series.
What makes Mahfood’s comics so great aside from his established stylistic linework and beautifully frantic layouts, is his great use of limited color palettes. Every panel and page just pops with all kinds of wonderfully chaotic energy that keeps a reader glued to the book. It’s a constant spotlight for the book that makes a book such as this and his previous projects so enjoyable to read. I think my favorite moments throughout the book that many will clamor for is when Bescu shows up on the scene and causes all sorts of hilarious carnage akin to the wild madness scene in classic Simon Bisley Lobo comics, which is all the more welcomed for all readers to enjoy.
It’s another superbly enjoyable installment of this mini-series that delivers on all levels of stylistic art that breaks away from the norm of house style, witty humor, wild action, and fun all in one. Plus you get a backup feature comic as an additional bonus that makes all kinds of tongue and cheek satire to 90’s comics to boot!
