Magnetic Press to Publish The First-Ever English Translation of the Stunning Graphic Novel, Featuring Dragons, Mermaids, and Magic in the City of Lights

Internationally acclaimed creators writer Joann Sfar (Dungeon, The Rabbi’s Cat) and artist Tony Sandoval (DoomBoy, Watersnakes) are joining forces for the first time in Dragons of Paris, a folkloric, playful, and liberating graphic novel due out on December 2 from Magnetic Press, the Eisner Award–winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels from around the world since 2013.

What if dragons invaded Paris during the Belle Époque? Paris, 1900. For thousands of years, dragons have lived hidden from everyone, sealed in statues and gargoyles throughout the city. Legend has it that only the sacrifice of a being of great magic can protect Paris from their wrath and maintain their slumber. But when a roguish Hawaiian princess rescues a mermaid from suspicious danger, the malevolent shadow of dragons grows once again over the City of Lights. From the catacombs to the parvis of Notre-Dame, a romance is born under the awakening of a thousand-year-old evil.

“This beautiful graphic novel is an amazing vehicle for Sfar and Sandoval’s talents,” says Magnetic Press Founder and Publisher Mike Kennedy. “They weave their imaginations into a canvas of adventures, battles, sacrifices, love, and humor that’s as touching as it is exhilarating.”

Perhaps best known for co-creating the parody fantasy comic series Dungeon with Lewis Trondheim, Joann Sfar is considered one of the most influential figures in the new wave of Franco-Belgian comics. His unique storytelling style is complemented by Tony Sandoval’s surreal, atmospheric artwork. As a graphic designer, illustrator, and comic artist, Sandoval’s work has earned him fans and acclaim in Mexico, Europe, and around the world. Together, the two creators’ unique styles and passion for the comics medium fuse together to create an incredible 104-page hardcover graphic novel.
