YOU ARE ON NATIVE LAND: A CHARITY COMIC FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS
Mad Cave Studios Brings A Powerful New Anthology Amplifying Indigenous Voices, Storytelling, and Advocacy, Rooted in Direct Support for Native-Led Organizations
A powerful new anthology brings together Indigenous creators, centering stories of resistance, identity, and community.
Mad Cave Studios supports organizations and awareness surrounding the Missing & Murdered movement with the anthology YOU ARE ON NATIVE LAND: A CHARITY COMIC FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS. All profits from the collection will be donated to Not Our Native Daughters, a Native-led, survivor-led organization dedicated to addressing the Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) crisis.
Collecting stories and art donated by some of comics’ leading Indigenous creators, You Are On Native Land features contributions from Jon Proudstar, Gord Hill, Chas Lowry, Kelly Lynne D’Angelo, Jackie Fawn, Steph Littlebird, Roy Boney, Jim Terry, David Cutler, David Mack, Arihhonni “Honni” Cannon Clay David, and many more. Tales of native resistance, family and kinship, love and grief fill the book, including a special reprint of Tribal Force #1, the first comic to feature a superhero team made up entirely of Indigenous heroes.
Writer and illustrator Arihhonni “Honni” Cannon Clay David spoke to the personal meaning behind his contributions to the collection:
“I wanted to share an ongoing series I’ve been working on through my illustrations, modernizing the Flying Head Legends. The pieces show how our youth would face off with these horrible legends of old while centering on our people’s resilience even in the face of such overwhelming odds. We are still here. I hope this anthology reaches as many people as it can across Turtle Island, lending support to MMIWG survivors and amplifying the voices of so many Indigenous creatives.”
Contributing poet Kelly Lynne D’Angelo added:
“Storytelling has always been a way our people carry truth forward. Being part of You Are On Native Land means honoring that responsibility, not just to be seen, but to be heard, celebrated, and held. This work was created in the spirit of giving, as our people do, and I hope readers feel that care in every page. More than anything, I hope this anthology helps people move beyond seeing Native communities and their efforts as separate from their own, and instead recognize the deep connection and responsibility we all share to each other and to the land, at large, now more than ever.”
On the importance of the anthology, editor Sarah Brunstad said:
“It is a distinct honor to work with so many outstanding creators, many of whom have been making comics for decades. We have much to learn from Indigenous people, knowledge that has been deliberately obscured, and I hope that this anthology will be a source of information–and inspiration–for many years to come. We are also greatly privileged to partner with Not Our Native Daughters, an organization helping to transform the conversation about the MMIWG crisis and truly empower survivors and their families. Supporting this anthology directly funds their work, including an Indigenous Youth Voices Program that provides land-based learning and leadership experience for Native teens.”
For Mark Irwin, President of Mad Cave Studios, the anthology represents an ongoing commitment to supporting Native-led organizations and elevating Indigenous voices through storytelling:
“We have a responsibility to ensure Indigenous stories are not only shared, but supported. This anthology reflects that commitment—amplifying voices while directing resources to Native-led organizations doing critical, on-the-ground work.”
More than an anthology, You Are On Native Land stands as a collective effort to support Native communities through storytelling and action.
