Who doesn’t love travelling? The change of scene, the new people you meet, the massive robot trying to kill you!! Yup Harley Quinn knows how to travel!
This issue begins with the clean up of the alien hot dog zombie outbreak -yeah, I know- in full swing and Harley wandering around her beloved Coney island in deep reflection. Not one to be down for long she soon cheers up after brokering a deal for free (non alien) hot dogs in return for her advertising them as safe to eat. It’s while scoffing dogs she meets a frankly pointless Frank Frank who offers some advice then leaves. Franks advice leads her to accept a new mission and where our story really starts.
Along with Bolly Quinn from her gang of Harleys our heroine heads to Mumbai to put a stop to the evil call centre ( a worthy cause I’m sure you’ll agree) and after touching down, meeting Bollys’ cousin and getting stuck in traffic they find themselves at the call centre headquarters with a rather standoffish receptionist. Not only is Harley not allowed to meet the Boss but also has a MASSIVE robot set upon her which she obviously thinks is pretty damn cool. After a chase through the building and a battle with quite a surprising ending, they uncover the man behind the organization and head to Moscow to ‘talk’ with him which doesn’t work out well for him at all!
I love Harley Quinn (who doesn’t) but this issue felt to be a little lacking. The first 6 or so pages are only there to provide a half arsed reason for her to take on the mission and unless Frank Frank returns in later issues I just don’t see the point in him at all. After a quick online search, it looks like it could be a nod to Frank Tieri who wrote the gang of Harleys but still makes the character only slightly less pointless.
The stereotypes run the risk of going too far and becoming offensive all through Mumbai and into Moscow it’s kinda something you’d expect to see in one of Deadpool’s “flashback” issues except without the irony.
Harley is still her ass-kicking, wise-cracking, fourth wall breaking self but it wasn’t one of her best adventures
