“Survival is everything..”
As the Turtles fight their way out of Baxter Stockman’s complex. They are confronted by more of Bishop and his men, who are clashing against our mutant sibling protagonists in waves. Will Raphael have a chance to open to his brothers, with the Turtles survive Bishop’s militaristic onslaught ? And will there be any Pizza left over to eat tonight?
The main story written by Paul Allor is really entertaining and filled with timed humor that characteristically match the characters well. He manages to blend a lot of elements that fans of the turtles like. Allor is able to combine the seriousness of threats like the early comics, the family aspect kinda like the 80s cartoon, the storytelling depth of the classic early 2000’s series , or the modern aesthetic of the current nickelodeon cartoon, he’s able to roll that up in a way like a pizza with the essential ingredients needed to be digested by any reader and fan.
The art by Damian Couceiro and the colors by Ronda Pattison are great. It has a nice combination of the modern aesthetics of the nickelodeon cartoon but infuses with the color tones and seriousness of the early 2000’s series that mesh well together. One of my favorite scenes is in the closing pages, simply because it’s such a subtle, sweet, kinda bittersweet yet sweet moment for Raphel.
There is also a backup story plotted by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and scripted by Tom Waltz with art by the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz. The back focuses on Leonardo as he travels through the dreamscape worlds that he is stuck in. It’s a nice little back up with awesome art. It’s a comic for anyone who is a ninja turtles fan, or a casual ninja turtles fan can read this and enjoy it for what it is. If you haven’t read the issues prior, check them out, although, you can jump on the book and go with the flow and still have a nice time.
