Williamson and company deliver the final chapter to their Rogues Reloaded arc.
Now that the Flash has discovered the Rogues plans for Central City, he plans to finish what he started: take each of the Rogues down and restore all of the lost material that was stolen. The Rogues make their last stand against the Flash and are willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. Who among the Rogues will break their no kill code? How will the dynamic between the Flash and The Rogues change? What is The Flash willing to do to finally bring the Rogues in?
Williamson has been upping the ante with fun and adrenaline with this arc. We’ve seen how Barry has developed the most difficulty in the last 3 chapters of this arc. all snowballing up to the finale. I think Williamson made a good decision with having one of The Rogues decide to question their “No Killing” policy. Reiterating that the only way they’ll be truly free is if they kill the Flash once and for all. It’s handled really well by Williamson, showing that despite the usual run around with these characters, things reach a peak and eventually people get tired of the same dance number. I thought it was nicely handled, and glad to know that one of the Rogues within the current series decided to attempt the act. Overall the writing was good in this issue and delivered a satisfying conclusion with two interesting stingers foreshadowing the next arc and another down the road.
The art by Giandomenico, Gianfelice, and Googe all do a fantastic job in this issue. You don’t realize the change in art since their art styles are very similar to one another in a good way that doesn’t pull you out of the visual narrative. Chris Sotomayor’s colors do a fantastic job at delivering the arctic chills of Captain Cold’s gun, while also providing a certain energy to The Flash, The Rogues and even the streets of Central City, balancing out all of the colors despite all the fighting. Steve Wands does his job at lettering and there is no complaining about that. A fun arc that’s definitely gonna be good to read in full. Definitely, pick this up, or read the whole story in trade when it’s related.
