Image Comics brings you a supernatural comic that focuses the most terrifying urban legends in Nomen Omen on its first volume.

So there is a comic that literary focus nothing more than a ghost story. Nomen Omen is a comic that actually makes it a more devastating story to read to know that there is a girl who actually cheats death often in the modern world of magic. The story is written by Marco B. Bucci and Illustrated by Jacopo Camagni. Marco is the one who founded Studio Dronio with Jacopo who created Magna Veritas comic published by Soleil in France in 2005. He also wrote a few backstories and co-created a tabletop RPG Memento Mori. So this comic is going to focus more on the supernatural and fantasy-oriented stories. And Jacopo worked in the comics and illustration industry for over twenty years and he works for Marvel Comics and lent his art to have one of the Marvel universe characters to draw in his style.

The front cover shows the main character in her image seeing herself being dead, as her heart has a gaping hole while a number of hands are surrounding her body. I swear, I felt like I’ve seen this before, from what I refresh my memory from my art, it almost shows that her heart is taken over by the heartless. Well, that’s my theory, but seeing this front cover art is another thing. And apparently, she almost looked like Gwen from Spiderman: Spiderverse movie. So, right off the bat, it’s a spirit world-oriented kind of story, it starts off when the two girls are on a road trip until they met a strange pregnant woman in the middle of the forest at night named Naya, she cast her magic to transfer the womb to one of the girls, and Rebecca was born. In the present day in New York, Rebecca’s mother got a call from the hospital and told her that she’s been in an accident. But luckily, she still lives, even all that time, she cheats death even for that, she gets dragged into the spirit world. But she possesses some great powers that she would survive in this world. Don’t know where Naya or Becky came from but it seems that the story is becoming more of the terrifying urban legend story in comic book history. But how will she fight and defend herself?

The story is more spiritual, to begin with, furthermore, this comic is more like reading X-Men, except that the characters can use magic at once. Rebecca, however when she died several times, the time-lapsed and something made her gain immortality. The whole comic made the world itself surrounded by black magic or alchemy. Even so, the comic has one of the unique stories that you can think of. And the art, Oh MY GOD, THE ART. I’m very stunned about Jacopo’s art because all of the character designs and the details seemed to be too real to observe, and his coloring drastically changes because one of the pages and panels started with the flashback filled with colors, then it changes a few pages with black and white, and whenever one of the characters is using magic, the comic pages suddenly changes its colors. The character designs are great too, I like Becky’s design because her appearance from the front cover and the following pages shows how independent she is because she’s a strong woman who surrounds with magic and with the support of her family and friends. And this comic shows something special throughout the story. If you rather want to read a comic in the world of magic and where the girl never dies, then this is for you.
