Salt Lake Comic Con FanX (http://saltlakecomiccon.com/) is crossing the final frontier and will have George Takei, the Helmsman of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise to help fans boldly go where no man has gone before.
In anticipation of FanX on April 17-19, 2014, Salt Lake Comic Con organizers are announcing the first two FanX Pre-Events. The first is a costume contest on December 30, 2013 at EVE Salt Lake City 2013 (EVE SLC). The second is a special event at The Leonardo with George Takei on January 17, 2014.
Takei played Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek™ TV series, in the first six Star Trek feature films and is now the “King of Facebook” with almost 6 million fans.
“We’re thrilled to have George Takei join us at the Salt Lake Comic Con FanX Pre-Event,” said Dan Farr, Comic Con Show Producer. “George is legendary for his role as Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek and his popularity amongst fans has skyrocketed over the years now reaching almost 60 million people on Facebook every week. We’re sure he’ll be a fan favorite and a huge hit in January.”
The Comic Con costume contest will be in the South Lobby of the Salt Palace Convention Center at 8:30 pm. Celebrities Peter Mayhew and Walter Jones will attend the event and Walter will help rate the contestants based on resemblance to the character they’re dressed as and their impersonation of that character. Contest winners will receive cash and tickets to Salt Lake Comic Con’s FanX in April. Prizes include:
First place: $750 and a pair of VIP passes to Salt Lake Comic Con FanX
Second place: $500 and a pair of 3 day passes to Salt Lake Comic Con FanX
Third place: $250 and a pair of 3 day passes to Salt Lake Comic Con FanX
Two specialty category winners will also win a 3 day pass to Salt Lake Comic Con FanX
Participants can sign up between 6 pm and 8 pm at the Comic Con stage at the Salt Palace. Anybody that purchases an official EVE SLC ticket is eligible to participate in the costume contest. Each contestant will have the opportunity to walk across the Comic Con stage in their costume while acting like their character.
Additionally, Salt Lake Comic Con will be selling an exclusive Salt Lake Comic Con FanX 2014 t-shirt in the South Lobby of the Salt Palace before and after the costume contest. T-shirts cost $15.00.
The second FanX Pre-Event is a chance to meet George Takei, up close and personal. George Takei will be in Salt Lake City on January 17th at The Leonardo to meet Salt Lake Comic Con fans. You can get your picture taken with him and get his autograph. This is your chance to meet the “King of Facebook”. This event is exclusive to FanX ticket holders. Tickets for the 2014 FanX are available now on the Salt Lake Comic Con website. Over 100,000 guests are expected at this follow-up event to the record-breaking Salt Lake Comic Con 2013. All ticket sales made before midnight on December 31, 2013 will include a special early supporter’s discount. Additionally a purchase of a Multipass or VIP pass includes a Free Thursday Only pass that can be upgraded to a more valuable pass. There is a 15% discount for senior citizens, military and first responders.
