It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights. It’s time to meet the Muppets.
It’s been about 11 years since Palisades Toys produced action figures based on the Muppets. So it’s been a long time since we’ve have had any really Muppets figures.
Well, thankfully, Diamond Select has acquired the license to the Muppets and gave them the Select treatment. Let me tell you, these are just wonderful.
Series 1 just came out, and it includes:
- Kermit with Robin and Bean Bunny
- Fozzie with Scooter
- Gonzo with Camilla
The amount of articulation is just amazing. Especially in Kermit, he has about 13 POA. With a character like Kermit you’d think it would be more fragile, but it’s not. It’s actually quite sturdy. Of course, these are meant for an adult collector and not really a kids toy to play with. But I was easily able to have Kermit sit in his director’s chair and look like he’s playing his banjo. Very impressive. Kermit also comes with his nephew Robin, with about 4 POA, and Bean Bunny, also 4 POA. Plus a ton of accessories. You get a log to sit on, director’s chair, a stool, a banjo, and a guitar.
Fozzie and Scooter also have multiple POA, though Fozzie doesn’t really have any knee joints, but that’s OK. Fozzie’s hat is removable, but personally, I wish it was on permanently. They also come with a clapboard, Groucho glasses (that fit only on Fozzy), a megaphone, and a rubber chicken. I had some difficulty with either figure holding the accessories, but I was able to make due.
Finally, there’s Gonzo with Camilla. Gonzo has about 13 POA while Camilla has zero. That’s OK. They come with a spotlight on a stand, a poster stand, a poster of the Great Gonzo, coffee mug, a box of popcorn, and a horn. I couldn’t get Gonzo to hold the horn properly. I think I just need to try a different position.
Kermit, Fozzy, and Gonzo are definitely key figures for this first wave. And I know that Miss Piggy is coming down the road shortly.
Again I need to stress that these are for the adult collectors. While they can be posed into multiple positions, I wouldn’t recommend a lot of movement or thinking it’s a child toy.
These are a must for any Muppet fan!
