Diamond Selects gives the Star-Spangled Avenger a much-needed upgrade.

Here’s another Mego repo I had when I was a kid. Captain America.

Like all the sets from Diamond Select, it comes with one figure, three outfits, three heads, multiple hands, and various other accessories. The outfits are what an original Mego would have looked like, one that’s updated with today’s material, and a secret identity.

First up is the original Captain America figure. It comes in repro packaging that looks amazing as usual.

This repro is so good at looking so crappy! That’s not meant as and insult. It’s just the original figure looked so horrible it’s not even funny. The black on his mask to simulate shadow. The lack of gloves. Regular Mego boots. And a sticker on the shield that looks like a 4-year-old put it on. Honestly, this exactly as I remember it. I just can’t believe how badly this figure was made. But on the other hand, an amazing repro. Kudo’s to Diamond Select and EMCE.

The modern costume is a huge improvement. You put on this outfit and you really have an amazing Captain America figure. He comes with his iconic costume, with gloves and the pirate boots. There are 3 sets of hands. One is open hands. One is fists. And the final is one so you can have his salute. And you can mix and match these hands, so you can have Cap hold his shield in either his right or left hand. Plus not only does he come with his circular shield, but his original triangle shield as well. Both are molded from plastic so no crappy stickers here. Honestly, just amazing.

Finally is the civilian outfit. In this case, it’s as private Steve Rogers. They did a good job making the army costume look like it is World War II period. The helmet is removable as well. The only complaint I have is the tie. In previous figures, the tie had elastic attached to it, to make it easier to take on and off. This tie is actually in a knot, and it’s a little difficult to put on and off without untying it.

The set again comes with a booklet that talks about the history of  Captain America action figures and other Captain America facts.

So far this is my favorite of all the retro figure sets. I can’t recommend this one enough.

Unfornatually this is the last in the line of the Retro figures for now. Punisher was announced a couple of weeks ago and I can’t wait to see what else Diamond Select has planned for this amazing line.
