In the newest issue of Batman from DC’s Walmart-exclusive series, we get into the Riddler’s game.

The Riddler has staged a heist, and Batman needs to get his bearings before he can foil the Riddler’s plans.

Writer Brian Michael Bendis, artist Nick Derington and colourist Dave Stewart combine forces here to present this brief chapter contained in the Walmart special edition of Batman. Part One is a nicely paced ‘old style’ Batman crime interception. The twelve pages are enough to whet our appetite for what is to come: the dialogue is taut, the drawings are perhaps a touch on the cartoony side, but still maintain the sense of urgency and immediacy that we enjoy with a Batman story. I like the feel of this story; it really IS about Batman solving a crime.

It’s a great way for new readers to acquaint themselves with Batman of 2018 without the angst baggage that sometimes accompanies his newer tales.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
