Ghost Tree #1, from IDW delves into some interesting themes concerning the afterlife.

Written by Bobby Curnow, it’s a look into the life of Brandt as he returns to Japan to visit family. Staying in the rural family home brings back memories and unfulfilled promises. And ghosts.

The story unfolds in a way that keeps our interest. The artwork by Simon Gane is detailed with a careful line and shadow treatment, appropriate for the subject matter. Nicely subdued colouring by Ian Herring, with assistance from Becka Kinzie.

This is not a ‘big’ story or a flashy one, but there are tendrils of mystery and supernatural that entwine its roots, making it very readable.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
