Batman continues to be ‘damned’, in Batman Damned #3, From DC.

Readers of previous issues will remember that Batman has been visited by John Constantine after falling from a tall bridge in Gotham City. That’s not usually a good sign. Subsequently, we’ve seen appearances of other ‘damned’ personalities, namely the scary little girl hiding in the woods, and Deadman, and more.

This dark, dark Dark Knight title, on the Black Label imprint from DC, has a certain “Je ne sais quoi” about it… it’s not just the dark ink, the dark script and the darkness of the night all around the dark evening sky… it’s not just that Brian Azzarello is writing a witty and yes, dark story. And Lee Bermejo is transforming Gotham into a version of ‘never daylight, always nightmare hell’.

The new issue continues along this ghastly damned road. It’s a creepy version of Batman, fully realized in high and disturbing detail. The kind of Nightmare On Elm Street thing, when you wonder if you are awake or dreaming… there are cameos, confrontations, camaraderie, and uncomfortable occasions. You’ll want to read this one just to find out how dark it can get, damn it!

DC, Batman Damned #3, $6.99 for 48 pages, dimensions 8.5“ x 10.875”, Rated Mature

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
