From IDW comes Ghost Tree, issue 3.

It’s Japan, and a young man has returned to his home. Behind the house is a tree. Ghosts hang around it. Ghost Tree.

In issue 3, we are brought in a little deeper. More about Brandt’s ex-girlfriend, long since dead. Well, dead, yes, but hanging around the Tree.
It’s not always a great idea for the living to spend a lot of time with the dead, it seems.

Written by Boddy Curnow, with art by Simon Gane, (colours by Ian Herring and Becka Kinzie) Ghost Tree is a quiet book, but thoughtfully done. The themes and conversations here are not ‘crash and bash’ material, but food for our own examination. Panel progression is smooth, thoughts are carried through to completion, and the quiet grace of the illustrations and colour serve to enhance this fascinating examination of family, life and death. Is there indeed a future when you start to take time to live with the past?

This is issue 3 of four issues in this miniseries.

IDW, Ghost Tree #3, $3.99 for 24 pages of content. Assume Mature rating

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
