Greg Weisman just knows how to tap into making entry-level stories that help the reader jump right in without missing a beat. This was a very solid re-entry into the world of Gargoyles. I know there have been other Gargoyles series before this one, yet despite that, it is very new-reader-friendly. Given that Greg Wiseman is obviously one of the showrunners of the original Series, he does a good job of keeping everyone up to speed and up to date, picking up where the original series left off. I’m familiar with these characters having grown up on the animated series, though I think if anyone who had never read or watched Gargoyles before jumped into this book, I’d say they would have a pretty good handle on it.
As for the art team, Gerardo Gambone’s art has evolved in the last few years, having previously worked on projects such as Vamparella versus The Superheroes amongst other works. Gambone’s ability to render the figures/ characters, paired with Robby Bevard’s color work, is a fine example of maintaining the tone of the book, without sacrificing it for pure aesthetics. Everything is clear, the visual narrative is easy to follow and flows.
What’s fantastic is the art team’s ability to visually encapsulate the style of the original series while still making it their own. If there was no dialogue in the book, it would still be clear as to what’s going on in the story.
This is a solid jumping-on point for anyone that wants to get into Gargoyles or is looking for something character-focused. I highly recommend adding this book to your pull list
