The most recent release of My Little Pony volumes from IDW is “To Where And Back Again”.

This volume adapts a two-part story from the My Little Pony animated series to graphic novel format.

For this reason, perhaps, there is a little catching up to do for those of us who are not regular My Little Pony readers: the book begins with an illustrated look at the Ponies, their names, colours and their personalities. And there are a lot of them!

The story is about the evil Queen Chrysalis, who wants to rule Equestria! So Starlight, Glimmer, Trixie, Discord, and Thorax the Changeling all go on a rescue adventure.

It’s a well-meaning, heartwarming tale that illustrates the basic goodness of us all; we need to help our friends, admit our mistakes, and try to do better tomorrow. There is a lot of good advice written between the reins, oops I mean LINES here. Young people who already know the characters will likely enjoy the long adventure that is afoot for the Ponies.

Story is by Josh Haber, adapted by Justin Eisinger. The illustrator is not credited, which indicates that the illustrations come directly from the animated TV material, not specifically created for this book. This may explain the rather ‘flat’ look of some of the scenes; they were based on animated movement. Nonetheless, it all makes an enjoyable read for fans of My Little Pony!

This book is a terrific bargain at just $7.99!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
