BOOM! STUDIOS’ Strange Skies Over East Berlin #1 is a strange story about spies, East Berlin, and alien intelligence. It’s a spooky take on 1973 Cold War activities between Communist and Western countries.

Suspicion is like a persistent gloomy cloud over East Berlin. But a mysterious person, seemingly invaded by an alien personality may have the key to what’s up in the strange skies overhead. Keep your eye on the ‘Spy versus spy in the sky’.

Strange Skies is a really captivating read. The concept, scenes, atmosphere, and rendering are all rock solid. It’s written by Jeff Loveness, illustrated by Lisandro Estherren, and coloured by Patricio Delpeche. The artwork is kinetic, graphically dramatic, and well-choreographed. Delpeche deserves a comic award for the colouring, which is unusually nuanced and powerful. Wonderful front cover by Evan Cagle!

For these reasons, you should run down to the comic shop. While avoiding suspicion and nosey neighbours, be sure to purchase this book. Secretly read it and enjoy!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
