The Hellboy Winter Special 2019, containing three original tales, is released this week from Dark Horse. I know, it’s now 2020, but winter started in 2019, lol.

The stories are short and entertaining, and leave you wanting more. First up, The Miser’s Gift is written by Mike Mignola, with art by Mark Laszlo, and colour by Dave Stewart. This strange and wonderful tale features Hellboy, drawn in a whimsical manner, looking into an unusual gift.

Next up, The Longest Night, a somewhat predictable tale of ghoulies in the woods. Chris Roberson writes, Leila del Duca draws, and Michelle Madsen colours this story, which reads similar to a Twilight Zone or EC Comic plot.

Last, The Beast of Ingelheim rounds out the collection. Writer is Scott Allie, artist is Andrea Mutti, and colourist is Lee Loughridge. It’s olde days and a religious man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do, for the good of the community….

Good snackin’ on a winter night, but not a full meal, if you know what I’m saying. Nice cover art by Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
