Two Moons, the supernatural western, debuts this month from Image. It’s an amazing read.

The American Civil War, completely uncivil goings-on between the two sides of the conflict, and a Pawnee Native American soldier, all mixed together in miserable circumstances. What a fantastic combo, ripe for drama, and so dramatic it is!!

Writer John Arcudi (Rumble, BPRD, etc) creates dialogue that rings true, for sure, as if it was plucked from the newspapers and reports of the day. There is something so stimulating and transforming that happens when we can ‘hear’ the characters in their original speech. In other words, the language used in this thriller is NOT “I’m all like, pivoting, you know…” but rather “Ain’t but the one casualty, but we be dangerous low on field dressings. You haul back plenty, hear?”

The artist, Valerio Giangiordano, (Rome, Italy: Savage Avengers, etc) with Dave Stewart on colours, really takes us into the atmosphere of the Civil War. His faces have depth and tone, the wrinkles, the hair, the shadows of fear and hate. The backgrounds are spooky and ‘of the period’, their props and machines and wagon coaches illustrated so strongly. The uniformed battle scenes, the multiple figures, there are no short cuts taken here, and we are richer for it.

It’s shamans, it’s ghosts, it’s supernatural, and it would be a real darn shame if you missed this promising new title!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
