A new Artisan Edition is available this week from IDW: it’s the softcover Silver Surfer volume, written by Stan Lee and illustrated by John Buscema.

The edition, with its high-quality scans from original artwork, features the complete stories of the 1969 Silver Surfer Marvel issues #5, #6, and #8.

In addition to these three stories, the Artisan Edition contains many ’selected’ interior pages from other issues in the Buscema SS run, plus several covers!

The Artisan Editions are a real treat for us: the original pages now sell for thousands of dollars each, and the 1960s Marvel comics are also expensive. Having a chance to see the pages clearly reproduced at this price point is truly special.

Buscema is at his peak here; his powerful figures, bulky and muscled; the Silver Surfer sleek and tormented, it’s space opera at its most dramatic!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
