Dark Horse Comics brings you a thriller superhero comic about a boy who uses his powers to either destroy or protect in Brilliant the graphic novel. So whatever happens if you take one of the X-Men mutants or metahuman, have the power to become immortal and a man of steel, with some Static Shock innuendos of this story, here’s this comic that would make you feel inspired.

Brilliant is another comic that involves the fact that gaining superpowers could change science fiction or some sort. But this comic tells so much about the mystery of how the main character gained those powers from. The comic is created and produced by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley. Brian is an American comic book artist and writer who has won five Eisner Awards for both his creator-owned work and various works on Marvel Comics books. He also was the writer of the first book of the Ultimate Marvel Universe, including Ultimate Spiderman in 2000. Not only he worked on writing comics but he also worked in television, video games, and film, and he’s also an instructor who taught courses on graphic novels. And Mark is an American comic artist who drew most of the Marvel Comics titles such as The Amazing Spiderman, Thunderbolts, New Warriors, and Ultimate Spiderman, and so does the DC Comics titles such as Justice League, Batman, and Trinity. According to his bio, he tried to break into the comic industry while working a construction job, but then he suffered a severe injury to his leg while using a handsaw, and he ended up working for Lockheed Martin corporation making technical drawings.

The front cover of the comic is nothing to talk about, you’ll see a madman screaming for help while he’s enchanting his powers into his eyeballs. Apparently, this is more like you’re seeing one of the panels or the episodes of Static Shock where he sparks up his eyes with the ray of light. And seeing the cover art almost looked damned similar to the antihero comic of Incorruptible Omnibus on Boom! Studios. Because of all these cooler colors that they produced, how come it’s too simple to see that way, when the main character sparks up with blue lightning?

The story starts as if you watched the beginning of The Dark Knight Batman movie in 2008, the main character named Amedeus is going in to make a bank robbery wearing just a hoodie. He makes an excuse that his ATM card is not working and threatens her to give him all the money out of the blue. When he’s going to take the money, he ran away and pushed some security officer using psychokinesis, like how Darth Vader uses the force with his hands. Then another one shot him in the cheek and his cheek is indestructible which really makes no sense on what I’ve witnessed how the Mexican’s cheeks are so squishy from La Voz De Mayo comics. And then the next scene goes with some college students moving into the dorm while everyone else inside is celebrating Albert’s birthday. So after going through some festivities, Amedeus keeps on hustling for more money from a bank to a local casino, where he gets savage on using his powers to control a ball from playing a roulette table game while winning more money. But he got in trouble with some security at the casino and used his powers against them at the alleyway scaring the civilians.

The strange thing is how did he gain his powers in the first place? At the other beginning of some superhero comic series, some ordinary people gained their superpower from some Kryptonite, nuclear waste, or some big bang gas. But in this comic, nobody knows how that guy has manifested the power of lightning just to strike at others, which everyone believes it’s becoming more of a science fiction. But not only Amedeus had those powers when he was killed by some detective but one of his friends manifested those powers. The crazy thing is if any human being has manifested some superpowers that would be beyond the rational way of thinking that all this is science fiction. However, this comic is a mystery to the readers to know the source of that superpower, like where it comes from, or how a human being contracted such a mysterious power like that.

The storytelling is quite fascinating, but it gets a little confusing to know where that kind of power came from. To think that a story like this would be more of a rational way of thinking if this whole thing is science fiction or not, because there are some other comics that represent what people use their superpowers to protect civilians from a bank robbery, a meteor shower or some other multiverse of other DC Superheroes. But this one is an enigma where the main character who “invented” superpowers. I can’t even think if this is a superhero comic or not. I feel like I’m reading another Power Rangers Universe where the main characters became corrupted under Rita Ripulsa’s evil spell to turn against other humans. The art is almost like I’m reading other Marvel Comics or DC Comics titles but this one is more focused on drawing the characters as much as anything else. What really got me hooked on his art is how he illustrated Amedeus with blue lighting or something, that is almost having someone trigger something and blasted them out of anger, which is somewhat strange. The effects make you think that you’re taking a color-blind test when you see the main character turn his body blue when he uses his powers like he’s going to explode, I can’t explain why. But this comic is going way over to our heads, from the fact that such a human being would invent a superpower like no other.
