Dynamite Comics brings you an entire encyclopedia of the history of video games in Supercade: A Visual History of the Video Game age from 1985 to 2001. Ok, first of all, I’m really excited to review and have something like this in my possession. But if this whole thing would be an event of some museum, my old friend and I will ourselves off over this. BUT FOR REAL, I’m literally going to review a video game encyclopedia. The whole book is created by Van Burnham, she’s a writer, designer, producer, and curator who created this only book, but she also curated the games component of Beyond the Streets, which is an art exhibition about graffiti and street art. However, the real kicker is that she resides in Los Angeles where she stewards the arcade museum which is the Supercade.

The whole front cover shows a photo taken of one of the taito candy arcade cabinets which are very tasty to eat, and every game that you see are flying shooting games like 1942 or other flying game platforms. But for a guy like me who loves to play video games, this front cover is very dope, to begin with. As a teen in my high school years, I always spent my time playing arcade games at Chinatown Fair in New York City, however seeing this book with all the arcades really brings back memories.

The book brings you all the video game legend titles and consoles starting from Arcade machines to Home consoles like Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, and stuff, and even handheld consoles like the Game Boy, Tetris, Pokemon, and stuff. There is so much that you can look up to in this book. But unfortunately, I have nothing else to say about this book because this is more recognizable for someone like me who loves playing video games the most. However there is some photograph that someone took where the arcades are being shipped and destroyed, and the ET game from Atari 2600 was in the dump yard. There is so much that you can discover about old video games from the 80s to the 2000s era. I don’t know what else to explain but my friend is more biased in telling the history of video games than I am. I’m just a comic book reviewer, reviewing comics about the story, the art, and the hidden aspects that any other comic has to offer for the readers.

I don’t think there’s anything else to say about this book, but as a gamer, it’s a must-get this book for your collection. However, this is the squeal of the first Supercade book that covers the whole video game history from 1971 to 1984. And what I’m reviewing is video games from 1985 to 2001. Well if you rather want something like this to have something for your collection as a gamer, then this is for you.
