Fleece and Seeley know how to craft an interesting crime mystery that’s coated in the guise of a superhero comic. The writing is humorous, witty, and at large, has weight that carries this book. Although Xavier is pretty much the Hawkeye of this series, there is something to be said with the kind of dilemma that Xavier faces that makes this story compelling. It’s not often that you get stories where a former superhero tries to solve a murder mystery centered around a former supervillain that was also a friend of the former superhero. There’s a humanity to be found when reading this book as Fleece and Seeley show nuance to every character that Xavier comes into contact with and how they affect one another that makes this series worthwhile. There are some surprising interactions that cause for more introspection, and even more unexpected conflicts that gets readers eager to see how things unfold and what consequences await Xavier.
Fleecs and Seeley do a splendid job in the art department illustrating past and present scenes. Their narrative abilities through their respective styles shines through and executes exactly what they aim for with the story that they are telling. Coupled with Brad Simpson and Felipe Sobreiro as the colorists of the book, they make the entire book an enjoyable read throughout. This is another solid installment that continues to build on the mystery that is steadily unfolding. This is one series to add to your pull list for new comic book day.
