As Dom and Birdie transport the strange cargo in their possession, contents of its supernatural origins begin to take precedence, slowly affecting them bit by bit. Meanwhile, Agent Weaver is captive in a place where she is no longer in the position to interrogate, questioned for her knowledge of the events that have taken place. Can Dom and Birdie survive the drive to their destination? What will become of Agent Walker? Will they survive the shifting tides of the dead that await them?

Jeff Lemire is effective at crafting entertaining dialogue between characters, making their interactions as impactful as the horrors that occur within the book. Conversations between Dom and Birdie feel convincingly real, and the exchanges between them make the book a worthwhile read aside from the entertainingly eerie suspense that creeps on every page of the book. This issue focuses on the kind of secrets that people hide, and the kind of lies that hide behind the truths one is fed or led to believe. This is a very Birdie and Walker-focused issue, as the story follows the going ons of those characters as they try to navigate their situations. Lemire manages to craft suspense in the quiet moments which is the bulk of the book, leading the reader through the story without a dull moment despite the lack of action that occurs in this issue.

Gabriel Walta and Jordie Bellaire do a solid job illustrating and coloring this issue, with page layouts that are purposeful and atmospheric due to the complementary nature of Bellaire’s colors to Walta’s line work. Steve Wands manages to compliment the rest of the art team’s work with the lettering, fitting seamlessly with the entire book. As the mystery continues to unfold, the winding journey of Dom and Birdie’s trek out of the nightmare that they traverse continues to intrigue. This is worth adding to your pull list for new comic book day.
