Who do you trust?

In the wake of multiple, seemingly terrorist attacks, it revealed that it isn’t terrorist. At least not human terrorists. A fraction of the shapeshifting alien Skrulls is starting an invasion. Nick Fury is the only one who can stop them, but Nick is broken inside. He must ally himself with Talos, a Skrull who made a life on Earth. Now it’s a race against time to stop the upcoming Skrull Invasion.

I had a chance to watch the first two episodes and I liked what I watched.

The series is loosely based on the comic mini-series Secret Invasion, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu. Now the comic was a total freaking mess like everything Bendis touched. So when I heard Marvel Studios was making a series based on the comic series. I had some doubts. I’m glad I was wrong.

Writer/producer Kyle Bradstreet, just an excellent job in adapting this story to fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you are not familiar with Bradstreet, he created Mr. Robot.

This series is so much better than the comic. The series comes across more like a spy thriller in the vain of the Bourne franchise, with some aliens thrown it. But it works.

Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, but the way Jackson plays him this time around, it is one of a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Fury is definitely off his game here.

Ben Mendelsohn also returns as the Skrull Talos. Right now he is Fury’s only ally. Trapped between what is best for his people and family loyalty. Mendelsohn really shows off his action skills here. Very impressive.

Kingsley Ben-Adir plays the fanatical Skrull leader Gravik. Ben-Adir really plays this character like a James Bond villain. Cold, calm, and calculating. His rage just hiding below the surface.

Overall this is a solid show. I’m 2 episodes in and I seriously want more. I really hope the pacing continues throughout the show.

Secret Invasion really asks the question, who can you trust? Aliens or not, this is such a good spy thriller.

Secret Invasion premieres exclusively on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
