A new manga title, Primus 7, is available in Volume 1, from TokyoPop’s Noir Caesar imprint.

Arthur Grove has killed the father and grandfather of two brothers, Seven and Silva Ajamu. Now they must train to harness the power they possess. It ain’t easy of course. Viktor Espinoza, a former soldier who has raised the brothers as his own, does his best. Meanwhile, Arthur Grove has a dark spiritual Orii energy about him. A confrontation seems inevitable!

Writer Corey Mikell, with co-writer Nic Macari do loads of world-building, working to create the environment for this saga. It’s dramatic, over the top, and full of intense drama. There is a mountain of speeching, speeches, and rants in Primus 7; and lots of back and forth on the narrative timeline. However, the passion rings true, we want justice and freedom for all, dammit!!

Artist Sebas Riera contributes expressive figures, rendered with plenty of textures and lines. Squiggles in the faces, sweat on the brows, and lots and lots of environmentals details. Overall, the art is a little on the crude side, but again, passion overrules the small stuff, and wins over the reader.

There is plenty of heart-felt work on display here, and truckloads of super-enjoyable action. Pages and pages of tremendous battle scenes with figures flying and kicks aplenty. And plenty of philosophic talk for when we weary of the battle eternal.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
