The para-verse is falling apart as Anti-God is destroying various universes within the multiverse. Heroes new and old must band together from across the para-verse to stave off such a threat, but it can’t be done without a Black Hammer to lead them to victory. Meanwhile, Lucy Weber, the last Black Hammer has reunited with her family and salvaged whatever normalcy that is left, but it won’t be long before Anti-God finds her.

Lemire has been building the entire Black Hammer series to this very moment where a slew of characters old and new scramble together to survive the threat of Anti-God. Readers will see some familiar faces, and the payoff of having read every installment of Black Hammer will be rewarding for those that have invested such time in this series. But this series is also accessible to new readers that may have never read the previous Black Hammer books but want to get an idea of what is going on with the current state of events in this series. The plot is solid as many characters get acquainted with one another, meanwhile, readers get to see what Lucy has been up to since her last appearance and how crucial she will be to the entirety of this series as she struggles to keep her family together and away from all of the superhero drama that has consumed much of her life.

Malachi Ward illustrates this new series and stylistically maintains the stylistic weirdness of this world while showcasing their artistic talent as an illustrator. From well-designed layouts full of various artistic techniques to beautiful gesturework and character acting, it shines quality. In addition, Bryce Davison’s color work in accompaniment to Ward’s art makes this book a feast for the eyes along with Nate Piekos’s letterwork that is expertly placed and complimentary to the art established by Ward. if you’re looking for a superhero comic with heart and stakes, this is a series to add to your pull list.
