That’s right! Back again with another Godzilla review!

Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons by Frank Tieri, Inaki Miranda, and Eva de la Cruz, pits the king of monsters in ancient times against pirates, Greek soldiers, and of course, more monsters!

It’s not the first time Godzilla was set in the far past. Godzilla: Rage Across Times was a memorable story in which Godzilla attacked feudal Japan and fought Medieval England and Rome. This issue is told from the perspective of an imprisoned pirate, captured by England authorities after surviving a tragedy that took his family from him and led him into the territory of beasts, where the authorities learn the true might of these creatures. There’s a special appearance by Ebirah, a massive lobster kaiju that’s rarely seen in Godzilla projects, and a mysterious ancient human cult that worships the kaiju and their existence.

It’s an exciting story with a great and simple premise. Ebirah, the sea monster is an underrated kaiju who doesn’t get enough time to shine in Godzilla media, so it is a welcome surprise when he’s included in anything Godzilla-related.

Because it’s the first issue, the story could go anywhere but right now I like where it’s going. There were a lot of challenges teased for Godzilla in this issue that weren’t just the humans and the monsters, but also Mother Nature. I can’t wait to see where this goes!
