Rick and Morty returns for its ninth season with more multiversal insanity, bizarre science-fiction concepts, and the kind of chaotic humor fans have come to expect from the long-running animated series. While the show has evolved over the years, season 9 still manages to capture the unpredictable energy that made the series a phenomenon in the first place.
The new season delivers ten brand-new episodes filled with wild adventures, clever callbacks to previous storylines, and the perfect balance of ridiculous comedy and surprisingly emotional character moments. Whether the series is parodying science fiction tropes or completely embracing absurdity, Rick and Morty continues to find creative ways to keep viewers guessing.
Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden once again step into the roles of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, and they continue to grow more comfortable with the characters. Rather than simply trying to imitate the original performances, both actors bring the same chaotic chemistry and energy fans expect from the series, making the transition feel increasingly natural.
Chris Parnell, Sarah Chalke, and Spencer Grammer also return as Jerry, Beth, and Summer, helping maintain the dysfunctional family dynamic that remains at the core of the show. Even after nine seasons, the series still works best when balancing its over-the-top science-fiction concepts with the strange but genuine relationships between the Smith family members.
Not every episode lands with the same impact, but season 9 overall feels confident, energetic, and self-aware in all the right ways. The series continues to lean heavily into continuity and references for longtime fans, while still delivering standalone adventures packed with strange creatures, alternate realities, and complete insanity.
After nearly a decade on the air, Rick and Morty still proves it has plenty of life left in it. Fans looking for more dark humor, outrageous sci-fi concepts, and interdimensional chaos should have a great time with season 9.
Season 9 of Rick and Morty premieres Sunday, May 24 at 11 PM ET/PT on Adult Swim and will stream on HBO Max at a later date.
