Wandering Planet Toys Pays Tribute to Showa Era Tokusatsu with New Figure

Showa Era WarLor Joins The Planetoid Raiders on Kickstarter Now!

In advance of the 2026 New York Comic Con (NYCC), Los Angeles based indie toy company Wandering Planet Toys is unveiling the Showa WarLor action figure. Now available as part of their new line of retro-style scifi action figures, the Planetoid Raiders, this new figure pays tribute to the iconic Showa era of Japanese film, television, and toy making. The Showa WarLor is available now, alongside the other Planetoid Raiders on Kickstarter.

“Evil doers and toxic mega-monsters beware– WarLor gonna enlarge to Kaiju-size and kick you back to Monster Island. SKREEONK!!!” exclaims Wandering Planet Toys co-founder Chris “Doc” Wyatt.

From 1926 through 1989, Japan’s Showa Era saw the rise of a new age of Japanese pop culture and collectibles, including beloved soft vinyl sofubi figures and iconic Tokusatsu tv and movies that introduced fans around the world to legendary characters like Godzilla, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and the Super Sentai. Coming just in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the dawn of the Showa Era, this new edition of WarLor evokes the imaginative spirit of classic Japanese characters and toys and will come packaged with all-new cardback art and a new Japanese logo for the Planetoid Raiders.

Wandering Planet’s Gavin Hignight adds, “It’s amazing. Some type of cosmic rift opened, some alternate universe where this version of WarLor has crossed over from! Already a mysterious character, now we learn of an entirely new and different existence (and paint deco) for the character! Is there anywhere, or anytime this mystic space-traveler has not been to? Hope he evokes joy for other collectors like he does us!”

The Showa WarLor is joining a sprawling crew of offbeat science fiction characters in The Planetoid Raiders line. Throughout the Kickstarter campaign for The Planetoid Raiders, Wandering Planet Toys has unveiled a slew of new figures, including the awe-inspiring Arcade Raiders, which unlock at each funding milestone  and the indie rapper WORDBURGURLAR-designed figure RECORDOR.

Inspired by Kenner Toys’ 1978 Star Wars action figures, and their off-the-wall competitor Tomland Toys’ Starroid Raiders – each PLANETOID RAIDER is a lovingly designed tribute to classic scifi toys and a striking piece of contemporary art. Fans can collect each limited edition, 5-point articulated, 1:18 Scale figure on Kickstarter, including brave Captain Oton, heroic Helmsman Ryot, WarLor the Mysterious Space Traveler, the trusty rusty robot Yogun, and the rest of the team. The figures in PLANETOID RAIDERS: Wave 1 will be available on retro-inspired card backs or pre-packed in a metal lunchbox-style collector’s case, with art from renowned Los Angeles horror artist Bill Rude. Wandering Planet Toys is also creating an 8 page “Sloog Interlude” mini-comic titled written by Chris “Doc” Wyatt with art by Chris Anderson (American Caper) available exclusively through the Kickstarter campaign.
