One of the best buy for your visual dollar this week is from Dark Horse. Wandering Luminations, The Art of Tara McPherson took me by surprise.

Tara’s artwork defies the imagination but stimulates it at the same time. It consists primarily of painted portraits of beautiful young woman, who have a metaphysical connection. Okay, they are made of stars, or they transmit upward falling cosmic tears. A cross between Adventure Time and Frozen. It’s like the 1960’s acid trip imagery, but so tastefully and expertly done. It’s mesmerizing and entrancing to look at the images in this book.

There are pages upon pages of astonishingly conceived and executed visuals: paintings, posters and prints, paper paintings and drawings.

From one feature photo in the beginning of this book, it is obvious that McPherson works large: her canvas is gigantic. And her ability to translate what she thinks into something that we can gasp at and admire is huge. She is tremendously talented. Check out this book!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
