Comic Review: Lois Lane #7 (DC Comics)

I’m a new reader of DC’s new Lois Lane title, already at issue 7. So here’s my clean take on the arc at this stage of its 12 issue run:

Lois is installed in a hotel room, and sometimes has visits from Superman. Her assistant is trying to get to the bottom of who has issued a contract on Lois’ life. In the middle of all this, Lois’ suite has suddenly been ‘cleaned’ despite her wishes by a new cleaning woman.

Right away, my Spidey sense is tingling. A new cleaner, while Lois has been holed up in hiding? Hmm, mighty suspicious. But Lois is not worried. I’m worried for her, I guess. Something’s ‘off’ about a journalist who just goes with the flow.

Greg Rucka writes this film noir-flavoured Lois Lane mini-series, and Mike Perkins draws and colours it. It’s dark, it’s realism-altered. The faces are realistic, that is, but the environments are strangely shaped, perspectively rearranged. Nice visual treatment.

It’s dramatic, it’s dark, it’s suspenseful. And now, cleaner than before. That worries me.
