Why isn’t the voice of Scooby-Doo getting more respect?
So I was working on this site and going through the various press release sites like I always do. I know that the new Scooby-Doo, SCOOB!, comes out this Friday, so I’m getting some PR and I want to add some graphics to the post. I’m checking out the site, looking for the perfect image, and I come across the video one-on-one interviews with the cast. I see Zac Effron, Will Forte, the director, the producers, others, and I start to realize one is missing. The voice of Scooby-Doo, Frank Welker.
What kind of nonsense is this? Welker has been playing Scooby-Doo since he first appeared in 1969. He was the one who has defined Scooby. 51 years of doing Scooby and I’m sorry but that man should get more respect than this. It makes no sense as too why they wouldn’t interview Welker. He’s playing the main character in the film.
I don’t understand it. How can you just exclude this man? Yeah, my inner geek is ticked. Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of Scooby-Doo, but fair is fair. Welker just didn’t voice Scooby but most of the cartoons we grew up on. This man is legend. The problem when you put him up against someone like Zac Effron, yeah Welker isn’t that popular, at least that’s how studios think.
I don’t wish any malice on anyone, but I really feel that someone who gave us so much joy be left out like this. It’s not right and it’s not fair. I would like to know the reason behind why he was left out, but I doubt we will ever find out.
I just want to see Frank Welker get his due.
Never been a fan of Scooby Doo? Jinkies!
That makes this thoughtful post even better, though.
