Batman/Catwoman reunites the fractured couple, in DC’s Black Label publication’s first of twelve-issue mini-series.
It’s Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle rekindled and keeping in warm embrace. Up close, upside down, downtown, up in the air. Writer Tom King plays across the time divide (again), with the past, present, and future timelines running concurrently through this issue. One segment is now, the next is the past, and so on. Once we, the bewildered and bewitched reader find our bearings, we land on all fours. It’s a wonderful tale of Bat and Cat love, mixed and tinged with the presence of Andrea Beaumont, AKA Phantasm. Oh, and there is another criminal around and trampling underfoot; never say that Batman has an easy day of it all.
The artwork in this issue, including the cover, is simply astonishing. SO GOOD. Clay Mann illustrates with an unbelievable ability and is coloured here by Tomeu Morey. This is like a book of pinups, splash pages, and “keepers”. Morey brings such a carefully considered treatment to the colour, that this issue, despite its sometimes disorienting shifts in time, is a must buy.
