The Deadside is seeping into the living world, and Shadowman wants to find out why. Have a look at Shadowman #4, from Valiant.

Writer Cullen Bunn, artist Jon Davis-Hunt, colourist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Clayton Cowles bring us alongside the evil presence that is filtering into earth, and Shadowman’s struggle against it.

The scenes are horrific, as the ‘evil presence’ strolls around the neighbourhood, sporting a hoodie and infecting passersby on a pleasant afternoon. Likening the infection to a barbiturate high, the presence is a leering, pusher of poison. Enter Shadowman, who is bound for a confrontation with the evil one.

It’s urban horror, amped up and nicely dramatized. Davis-Hunt contributes strong visuals, and Bellaire mutes the everyday scenes and amplifies the special effects.

Valiant, Shadowman #4, $3.99 for 19 pages of content.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
