- Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) has been cast in Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist, produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment for Universal Pictures. Fishburne joins Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who were previously announced.
- The film will be released theatrically on Friday, March 12, 2027, and is set to shoot in New York City.
- Laurence J. Fishburne III is an award-winning actor, producer, director, and cultural force whose career spans more than five decades across film, television, and theatre. He began acting professionally as a child, making his television debut at age ten and appearing in Apocalypse Now at fifteen. His performances have earned the industry’s highest honors, including a Tony Award for August Wilson’s Two Trains Running, multiple Emmy Awards (including for #FreeRayshawn), an Academy Award nomination for What’s Love Got to Do with It, and seven NAACP Image Awards. Widely recognized for his iconic role as Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy, Fishburne’s film work also includes Boyz n the Hood, The Color Purple, Mystic River, Deep Cover, and King of New York, among many others.
- In 2000, Fishburne co-founded Cinema Gypsy Productions with producing partner Helen Sugland, building a prolific slate of acclaimed film, television, documentary, animation, and audio projects. Their work includes black-ish and its spinoffs, the Emmy-winning animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, the Tribeca Award–winning documentary The Cave of Adullam, and the Audible bestseller The Autobiography of Malcolm X, for which Fishburne won an Audie Award. His recent credits include John Wick: Chapter 4, FX’s Clipped, Megalopolis, Transformers One, Netflix’s The Witcher, and leading roles in Slingshot, The Astronaut, and The Amateur. A longtime UNICEF Ambassador and former Harvard Artist of the Year, Fishburne continues to shape culture through bold storytelling, singular performances, and enduring creative leadership.

- The film will tell an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe and is not a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. It is produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan, who will also write and direct via his Red Room Pictures banner. Alexandra Magistro will also executive produce for Red Room Pictures. David Robinson produces for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek serve as producer and executive producer, respectively, for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
