Four free screenings curated by Murdoc, Noodle, Russel, and 2D, plus an exclusive album event featuring never-before-seen Gorillaz content and limited-edition keepsakes
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is partnering with Gorillaz via global distribution partner The Orchard to celebrate the release of the band’s ninth studio album, The Mountain, arriving February 27th. The collaboration brings the world of Murdoc, Noodle, Russel, and 2D to the big screen with a month-long takeover of Alamo Drafthouse’s Guest Selects series, featuring four free screenings personally curated by each animated band member and a one-night-only album release event exclusive to Alamo Drafthouse.
The Mountain is a collection of 15 new tracks featuring a stellar lineup of artists and collaborators. Jamie Hewlett’s album artwork captures the four band members in beautifully intricate, hand-drawn illustrations that expand the ever-evolving Gorillaz universe. To mark the occasion, the band is stepping into the projection booth.
On Thursday, February 26th, Alamo Drafthouse will host an exclusive album release event: Gorillaz Presents The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God, a 20-minute special video presentation – followed by a screening of Wim Wenders’ 2023 film PERFECT DAYS, as picked by 2D. Attendees of this one-night-only album release event will receive a limited-edition keepsake, available exclusively at this screening.
“Gorillaz, who are arguably the most groundbreaking visual musical artists of their generation, have defined the intersection of music and visual art,” says Michael Kustermann, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema CEO. “At Alamo, we believe the theatrical experience extends far beyond first-run films. Bridging the gap between music and the big screen is exactly the kind of immersive storytelling we love to champion. We’re incredibly honored to be the only U.S. theater partnering with Gorillaz to bring this album to life in cinemas.”

Following the kickoff event, each Gorillaz member will present a film selection screening free for guests who purchase a fully refundable food and beverage voucher, redeemable during the show. One film screens each Thursday in March, with the exclusive 20-minute Gorillaz presentation playing before each feature.
Thursday, March 5 – SWEET CHARITY
Directed by Bob Fosse
“Story about a girl who keeps trusting the wrong people and paying for it. It’s New York, 1969 — beautiful, loud, and lonely when your luck runs out. But even in the dark, there’s hope.” -Russel

Thursday, March 12 – BAD SANTA
Directed by Terry Zwigoff
“The story of a foul-mouthed, booze-soaked antihero who gets put straight by a kind-hearted, hopelessly dim sidekick. Dunno why but it really speaks to me.” -Murdoc

Thursday, March 19 – BRITANNIA HOSPITAL
Directed by Lindsay Anderson
“A messed-up, dystopian comedy set in a 1980s NHS hospital, featuring the Queen Mother and a freaky super-brain in a jar — a very British apocalypse.” – Noodle

Tickets for all screenings are available now at drafthouse.com. Space is limited.
The Mountain releases February 27th wherever music is streamed, downloaded, or blasted from a passing car.
