Leading independent horror & sci-fi publishing house Storm King Comics announces its 50th graphic novel entitled Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, available for pre-order now and set for release on June 9, 2026.
Written by LGBTQ+ author Neo Edmund and illustrated by Jan Duursema, the book follows seventeen-year-old Red Riding and her sudden return home to Wayward Woods after receiving an ominous letter. She reconnects with her grandmother and long-lost friends as she discovers her superpowers, gifted to her by ancient lunar spirits, and rises to the occasion becoming the Alpha Huntress.
“Wow, we’ve hit another landmark at Storm King Comics: the publication of our fiftieth full-length graphic novel,” shares Storm King Comics founder Sandy King. “As lifelong fans of classic monsters in literature, we’re excited to be releasing our first adaptation of a novel, Neo Edmund’s Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, itself a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. Onward to the next fifty! Thanks for being with us since number one.”
Storm King Comics, formed in 2012 as a division of Storm King Productions, is headed by writer/producer and editor Sandy King. Along with her husband, director John Carpenter, King focuses on bringing the best writers from the worlds of comics, movies and novels to bring their special brand of horror and sci-fi entertainment to comics.
Sandy King is currently nominated for her first ever Bram Stoker Award, the premier recognition for writers of horror and dark fantasy, in the Superior Achievement in a Graphic Novel category alongside Cullen Bun and Danny Luckert, Daniel Kraus and Dani, Mike Mignola, and James Tynion IV, Steve Foxe and Piotr Kowalski for Tales for a HallweeNight Vol. 11. Storm King Comics is also thrilled for a 2026 Eisner Award nomination for Janice Chiang’s lettering on titles Blood of the Taken: Next of Kin and Tales of Science Fiction: Pause (issues #1-3).
Looking ahead, Storm King Comics is gearing up to release two exciting and deeply frightening titles for their fans this summer. Arriving on July 7, CHAPLAIN is a surreal and terrifying debut graphic novel co-written by creators Brad and Rev. Wesley Sun, illustrated by acclaimed artist Raúlo Cáceres, colored by Ryan Winn and lettered by Marshall Dillon. It is available July 7, 2026 from Storm King Comics. Following on August 4 is CATHEDRAL, the first original graphic novel written by John Carpenter, in collaboration with Sandy King, and writer Sean Sobczak, fleshed out by illustrators Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colored by Sian Mandrake, and lettered by Marshall Dillon. Fans can get a first peek of its look via the visualizer for “Lord Of The Underground” from the CATHEDRAL companion album from Carpenter set to arrive August 9 on Sacred Bones Records.
“LORD OF THE UNDERGROUND”
Upon achieving this milestone of publishing 50 graphic novels, Storm King thanks its fans for getting them to this point – this would be impossible without them.
