Out this week, a 4-issue comic book series about a man dealing with the trails and tribulations about being HIV positive. Loosely based off writer, Darren G. Davis’ journal entrees this fiction graphic novel tells the story about being HIV positive from a different perspective.
The 4-issue mini series is drawn by Renato Arlem, Keu Cha and Sean Murphy.
According to the publisher: “The graphic novel “Lost Raven” won the “Independent book graphic novel of the year”. We have taken it and make a comic book series off of it with updated text and information.”.
After learning that he has contracted the HIV virus, attorney Zak Raven leaves his practice behind to set forth on a mission of relaxation-– until his peaceful trip goes wildly astray, leaving Zak shipwrecked on what he thinks is a deserted island with only the words in his own journal to keep him company.
Unknown to Zak, four miles below the surface secretly hides a government experimentation center where scientists are playing God by trying to artificially evolve a human based species that can survive evacuation missions in deep space. Within 900 years, earth will be dealt a deathblow by a mountain-size asteroid. However, so far they have only achieved creating living abominations. Zak and these creatures are on a collision course, and he must rise to the challenge!
“I wrote the series because I wanted to make a difference in the HIV world and most of the movies and books were about people dying. I wanted to tell it from the other side, the person that manages it from a living perspective”, said Davis who has been HIV positive for the last 14 years, “It’s not touchy-feely,” he adds. “It’s basically raw emotion. Plus, it has a lot of cool monsters in it.”
“It is based on my journal entries from when I was diagnosed being HIV positive,” Davis says. “The book is almost like HIV 101 for the mental state. When I first found out about my condition I didn’t have any information and what wás out there was confusing even with help from doctors. This is no longer just a gay disease, so I also wrote the book so anyone can identify with it. I was even fired from a job after they found out I was HIV positive. Coming out about this subject is to help reduce the stigma of it… which has its challenges in itself.”
Davis now runs Bluewater Productions, which has gotten a lot of media attention from “Time Magazine”, “CNN”, “Fox News”, “People Magazine” and other media venues. The company has appeared many times on Amazon’s Best Seller list.
“Lost Raven” #1 will retail at $3.99 and may be ordered in print exclusively at Comic Flea Market: http://bit.ly/10gPeqf
You can download issue #1 on Wowio, Comixology, DriveThru Comics, My Digital Comics, Iverse, PanelFly, iTunes, Kindle, Nook, Kobo and wherever eBooks are sold. On iTunes: http://bit.ly/17IQVyz
Also being released by Bluewater is a biography on famed HIV artist Keith Haring called “Milestones of Art: Keith Haring: Next Stop Art”.
Bluewater has started a crowd-sourcing campaign for a comic book on the Stonewall Riots. An historical event in June of 1969 that would change the face of the LGBTQ rights movement forever is now depicted in comic book biography format. http://bit.ly/15NQqGg

Whenever I pick up an Iron Man comic book (or a comic that features Iron Man) these days, I always start off reading him/expecting him to be Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man. And, invariably, the Tony Stark/Iron Man in whatever book I’m reading at that moment is not portrayed that way. He’s portrayed the way that so many talented writers and artist have shaped him over the years. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I just get a bit…disappointed. (more…)

Network Will Team up with Sony Pictures TV
Series Based on Diana Gabaldon’s International Best-Selling Novels
Starz Chief Executive Officer, Chris Albrecht, announced today that Starz will partner with Sony Pictures Television to greenlight “Outlander,” an original series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international bestselling books. The network has ordered 16 episodes of the series which will begin filming in Scotland this fall. It is slated to premiere in 2014.
The series adaptation for “Outlander” will be written by Ronald D. Moore (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”). Moore is best known for his work on “Battlestar Galactica,” which won him a Peabody Award in 2006. Ronald D. Moore and Jim Kohlberg are executive producers of “Outlander,” which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company and Left Bank Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.
“We are thrilled to be bringing ‘Outlander’ to Starz next year,” said Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz. “Diana has created an incredibly compelling heroine, thrust into a very complex world, not to mention, time. The books weave a fascinating tapestry of history, spirituality, love and honor, not to mention plenty of time travel, sex and warfare. With Diana’s stories guiding us and Ron’s mastery, we hope to bring Claire and Jamie to life for the millions of fans the world over.”
Moore added, “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to bring these books to life. Diana’s created a rich and textured world filled with intriguing characters, and I believe that Starz is the perfect home for her story. I think we’ll make something that the millions of fans of these books will enjoy and recognize as ‘Outlander.’”
Diana Gabaldon’s seven-book series has sold more than 20 million copies and has graced the New York Times best-sellers list six times. The eighth installment of the “Outlander” series is slated to be released in the fall of 2013.
The “Outlander” series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one grandiose tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

One of the Original Anime Series on American TV
MARINE BOY:
THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON
Now Available via Warner Archive Collection
Alongside the heralded Speed Racer and Kimba: The White Lion, MARINE BOY was one of the original handful of imported television series that captured youngsters’ imaginations and put Japanese anime in the
stateside consciousness.
Now fans of the 1960s series, and an entire new generation of anime appreciators, can experience the undersea hero’s aquatic adventures as Warner Archive Collection distributes MARINE BOY: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON.
Produced in Japan but intended for first-run syndication in the United States during 1966-67, Marine Boy was one of the first color cartoons to come from Japan. A teenager with some amazing inventions at his disposal, Marine Boy battles evil on and under the seas on behalf of the Ocean Patrol, aided by his father, Dr. Mariner, and the brilliant Professor Fumble. Joining Marine Boy in his missions are his white dolphin, Splasher, young mermaid friend Neptina, and fellow Ocean Patrol agents Bullton and Piper.
The series even shared some pedigree with Speed Racer, most notably featuring several members of the rival series’ voice cast – like
Corinne Orr, the voice of Marine Boy, Neptina and Clicli (as well as Trixie on Speed Racer); Peter Fernandez as Piper and Dr. Mariner (and the original voice of Speed Racer) and Jack Grimes as Professor Fumble and Splasher (Chim-Chim). Jack Curtis provided the voice of the narrator for both series.
If sea-faring adventure is your brand of fun, then Warner Archive Collection has a vault filled with entertainment made for you. From live-action thrillers like Man From Atlantis, City Beyond the Sea and Captain Nemo and the Underwater City to the animated dramas SeaLab 2020 and The Pirates of Dark Water to the silliness of Jabberjaw and Snorks, there’s something for every aquatic fan …including special discounts during the current “Harpoon Sale.” Dive into http://shop.warnerarchive.com/home.do today.
