WORLD PREMIERE CELEBRATION FOR DISNEY’S THE LONE RANGER TO BENEFIT THE AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE FUND

 photo LONE_Payoff_1-Sht_v63.jpg

STAR-STUDDED EVENT TO BE HELD AT DISNEY CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE PARK ON JUNE 22

Walt Disney Studios Chairman, Alan Horn, announced today that ticket sales from the highly anticipated World Premiere of Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger” will benefit the American Indian College Fund. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. A giant red carpet down the Park’s iconic Hollywood Boulevard will be lined with thousands of park guests cheering for the film’s stars, filmmakers and the many Hollywood celebrities in attendance. The Lone Ranger’s horse Silver will make an appearance and an actual train engine built for the film will be on display.

“We’ve had a terrific collaboration with the Native American community throughout the production of Disney’s ‘The Lone Ranger,’” said Alan Horn, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “With the world premiere of this exciting film at hand, we are pleased to commemorate the occasion by supporting the American Indian College Fund.”

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Academy Award® winner Gore Verbinski, “The Lone Ranger” is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Johnny Depp stars as a newly imagined Tonto and Armie Hammer plays the masked lawman himself—the Lone Ranger.

Tickets for the premiere event have been donated by Disney to the American Indian College Fund, which will offer them for sale to the public; tickets will be available for purchase at https://community.collegefund.org/the-lone-ranger, starting today. Because Disney is also underwriting the entire cost of the premiere, 100% of the revenues received by the American Indian College Fund for the tickets will be used for scholarships and other support for Native American students. Tickets are priced at $1000.

Fund President, Cheryl Crazy Bull, stated: “The Fund is pleased to be the beneficiary of this event because our scholarships are an investment in a healthier, more prosperous future for tribal students and their families. We are poised to serve over 20,000 American Indian and Alaska Native students attending the tribal colleges across this country. Currently our scholarships serve less than 21% of those students so we appreciate any opportunity to bring resources into our scholarship program.”

Disney California Adventure Park will be hosting the premiere and sponsors will be offering opportunities for the guests in conjunction with the event. Commenting on the premiere event, Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said, “All of us at Disney Parks are thrilled to host the world premiere of ‘The Lone Ranger’ at Disney California Adventure. Disney brings unforgettable stories and characters to life in our movies and in our parks and resorts, so there’s no better place than Disney California Adventure to start this trailblazing film on its journey.”

Time Warner Cable, a title sponsor of the world premiere of Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” will stream the event LIVE from Disney California Adventure Park.

Visa Signature, a premiere sponsor, will have a fan pen on the red carpet for the first 50 Visa Signature cardholders who show their card.

The Utah Office of Tourism and Film, a premiere sponsor, will provide an opportunity for guests of the park to enter to win a trip to Utah and premiere guests will enjoy a photo opportunity provided by the sponsor. Many of the movie’s memorable scenes were filmed in the Monument Valley area of southern Utah.

Christie Digital, a global visual technologies company with expertise in film projection since 1929, is providing all the projection for “The Lone Ranger” premiere.

A one-of-a-kind Lone Ranger Ninja motorcycle from Kawasaki, a sponsor of the premiere, will be displayed at the event and will be available for the stars in attendance to autograph. The bike will be auctioned off at a later date, with all proceeds going to the American Indian College Fund.

Subway is providing sandwiches for the premiere guests.

Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger” opens in theaters July 3, 2013.

Comic Review: King Conan #1 (Dark Horse)

king conan

King Conan #1… Oops! I mean Thor. I mean The Mummy. I mean Troy.

I am a huge fan of any media set in a different world. Movies like the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. In my teens, I loved the Conan films as portrayed by the great Arnold Shwarzennegar. In those movies you always had the same wizard narrating the story along, which they actually utilized a narrator for this comic as well. It brought joy to my heart to hear that old man’s voice once more telling the tales and adventures of Conan.

For the most part I enjoyed this book based on all of the reasons above. The story, Truman, was intriguing and yet very basic. Old man reflects on past life and love. The art was also basic yet enjoyable, Giorello and Villarubia. I cannot complain too much about either of these two major components of a comic book. The one thing I can complain about was the relationship of the plot line to many different recent films. The beginning felt a lot like a Thor scene from the first feature film released in 2011. The aged Conan looked like Thor’s father, Odin. A few panels later and it merges into a seen from The Mummy, 1999, where Brenden Fraiser helps to release one from the grave. A few pages later their is a conversation between Conan and his fellow soldiers. A few mishaps down the road, and someone has to pretend to be Conan so that the soldiers would still fight. This plot sounds a lot like the feature film Troy starring Brad Pitt.

All in all, I enjoyed the book. However, too many things reminded me of something else that I have seen. Nothing “new” popped out at me.

I give this Three “BY CROMS” out of Five.

Iron Man 3 vs Man Of Steel – WTF!!?? Seriously!?

Man-of-Steel-vs-Iron-Man-3

Before I even begin, this article is dedicated to the morons across the internet starting “The Flame Wars” over Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel! These mentally challenged and pathetic individuals have in some fashion decided that they mentally own a piece of Marvel Studios and/or Warner Brothers and feel the need to attack (aka Trolling) every article they see when it pertains to the opposite side they are on! It just goes to show that they have successfully redefined the terms “Window Lickers” and “Head Bangers”.  Now, on to the article!

**Possible Spoilers Throughout** You have been warned!

The question I continue to ask myself is, “Who gives a flying f&#% which film does better?” Realizing, actually hoping, that most of this is started by people under the age of 18, there has been as of late, a consistent upswing in hijacked threads and articles where comments are allowed.  It could be anything from a few “off color” words, to photo-shopped pics and/or modified Gif’s. The biggest problem is once the Trolls come out, they sit back as the fans  retaliate typically with similar degrading backlash, not realizing all they are doing is “Feeding the Animals”! You know what happens when you feed a wild raccoon or squirrel? They keep coming back! Amazes me that so many do not get this!

As a long time comic and super hero fan, I was so pumped when back in 2005 and 2008 we were blessed with the beginning of a new era in CBM’s (Comic Book Movies) known as Iron Man I and Batman Begins.  Marvel and DC both began a revamp on their franchises and gave us 2 great films.

images

You would think that would be a fantastic thing for comic fans, right? Oh Hell No! Most people were happy as it pertains to what the Box Office earnings show. But then there came a new type of mutated Fanboy! Of course with Nolan’s vision of Batman came the A-Typical diehard Fan-Tards that were screaming foul because this Batman was in a whole different universe that contained no other DC Universe Heroes with “powers”. This Dark Knight was a stand alone! This, of course, gave birth to a whole new annoying class of flap-jaw psycho fans commonly known as –> “THE NOLANITES”! The fans who act like Christopher Nolan walks on water! Check the image below! It explains it all!

tumblr_lls6qorcrc1qkr1woo1_500

If you are posting and they are close, then prepare to have your face ripped off if you say anything at all that is derogatory about The Dark Knight Trilogy!  Of course, I take the opportunity when it presents itself to agitate the Hell out of them so they hopefully will break their keyboard in a fit of pre-hormonal rage and log off! Trust me when I say, you will get nothing but pure enjoyment watching them through your monitor  having a brain melt down! Oh btw, so I do not sound like a hypocrite, there is an “art” to combating “Fanboyitis”! It is all in the delivery! Use facts and above all else, be overly nice! They won’t know what to do. Confusion and a severe case of ADHD takes over and they disappear! It truly does work!

Now that we have those goons established, let us proceed onward and take a look at a very nasty and wicked little breed of parasite known as “Marvelites”.  These annoying and sneaky parasites will appear typically as one spamming nutjob, but will breed out of control and ruin every post they touch! Unfortunately they come in all shapes and sizes and there is no true standard banner for them except for what is below. —>

Unknown-screamer

I compare these fools to cockroaches! You try and stomp them dead, but they keep returning! The breach for their entry came in the way of Iron Man I and they steadily became more and more annoying as Marvel Studios kicked out some of the best CBM’s in the history of movies! You would think everyone would be happy! Not in the least! Out of nowhere a sense of entitlement came over these people where they started flaming DC posts because Marvel was getting it right while DC fans were getting Craptastic films like Green Lantern and Jonah Hex!  I will admit many of the flames were hillarious, but it was still pathetic in that enjoyment was being had from the misery of others. Do not get me wrong! DC Nolanites and Fanboys alike were and are doing the same thing. They all continue to cannibalize each other while making everyone else miserable who is trying to enjoy fellow comic movie fan conversations!

CoexistMarvelDC-580x419

Why is it so hard to like both for these sub-humans? I thoroughly enjoy all CBM’s yet like many other people out there, I am subjected to uneducated blowhards constantly when I want to participate in a discussion.  Kevin Feigi  actually addressed the out of control war, via video, going on over at comicbookmovie.com between Marvel-Heads and DC-Heads! There was always a little tension until it erupted over The Mandarin twist and was immediately deemed a “DC Fanboy Produced Spoiler”! I laughed so hard until I realized how it caught on like a prairie fire and next thing you know all Hell broke loose! Now every single post that is Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, or ANYTHING Marvel/DC movie related over there has the effect of a dinner bell being rung! They come running like a pack of rabid dogs! Pathetic to say the least!

I will end this by saying  GRATS to Marvel Studios Iron Man 3 for breaking $1 Billion and becoming the 5th highest grossing film of all time! WOW! Next up, we get a new revamped Superman in Man Of Steel that almost guarantees even further expansion in the DC Cinematic Universe! Kevin Feigi said it best when he told everyone to calm down and that he was very excited to see Man Of Steel. The most powerful words he used though were “When one studio does great at the box office with a super hero film it only helps the other studios with their films”! So if any of you are reading this and you feel that trolling on the internet is “cool” or is getting you “brownie points” in some way, your wrong and you are doing nothing but acting like an immature jackass! The studios don’t care for your opinion and frown upon that style of expression. They have no interest in what you want to see, since you are really never the target audience. All you are is guaranteed revenue that they know will be there when the time comes for opening weekend! Until next time, either here or on the podcast, I will be exposing the self absorbed Fanboys and will continue to serve them tall glasses of “STFU Juice”! Does their body good!

Joey

Comic Review: Star Wars Omnibus: Wild Space Vol. 1 (Dark Horse)

The Wild Space Omnibus is a trade paperback that gathers together many of the early Marvel stories originally published in the Marvel UK.  The Wild Space Omnibus is 480 pages of previously published stories dating back to 1977 only months after the May 25th, 1977 premiere of ‘A New Hope’ and continuing on past ‘Return of the Jedi’.

Mswuk107The stories are a collection of Marvel magazines like Pizzazz (1977-1979), Marvel UK, from cereal boxes, Star Wars Kids, and stories originally in 3-D.  The Omnibus collects together stories from major heavy weights in the comic book kingdom.  Writers like Archie Goodwin, Roy Thomas, Mike Barr, Chris Claremont, Alan Moore, and Len Wein with artists like Walt Simonson, Bill Erskine, Alan Davis, Carmine Infantino, Klaus Janson, and Dave Cockrum.

The characters we all know, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and C-Threepio were all present and accounted for along with characters like the Snow Demons, Colonel Odan, Giles Durane, Mici, and Zoltan Starkid.

Readers will discover alien races, super computers and android elemental children, Darth Vader’s viciousness, outer rim planets, origin tales about Princess Leia, the Millennium Falcon, and stories bridging gaps between each of the original movies (*my favorite was ‘The Day After the Death Star!’).

Day_after_ds

Star Wars fans reading the Omnibus be warned. Your favorite or the most well-known characters in the first half of Wild Space Vol. 1 are written with a “voice” different from what many of us have grown up with or come to know from those characters.  Reading it, one must understand the writers in charge of these stories had only 125 minutes worth of movie in 1977 to understand and breathe more life in to each character which, in my opinion, gives this collection its charm. Reading on through the years of stories presented in the book, the character traits fleshed out by the movies, were more present in the storytelling.

While I wasn’t hanging on the edge of my seat with every story and some of the art falls short, the Wild Space Omnibus is still a successful trade for a variety of reasons.  For one, the overall caliber of talent gracing the pages is almost second to none.  Every comic book fan should read at least one thing from the likes of Roy Thomas and Archie Goodwin.  Every comic book fan can appreciate work from John Stokes or Dave Cockrum.  The rarities of the books collected in the Wild Space Vol. 1 Omnibus also add to its value.  To have all these publications in one spot is enough to give any collector a thrill and be a savings to their wallets since they do not have to search out these near impossible (and most likely expensive) comics.  And lastly, and most importantly, the reason I enjoyed the collection so much and why I believe any Star Wars fan will enjoy the Wild Space Vol. 1 Omnibus, because each page is a cornerstone brick in the foundation for the Expanded Star Wars Universe.

The Star Wars Omnibus: Wild Space Vol. 1, is a worth while collector’s book for Star Wars fans and, because of the depth of talent presented in the book, for comic book fans alike.
