Toy Review: The Avengers Black Widow 1/6th Scale Figure (Hot Toys)

Here begins, yet again, another of your friendly neighborhood jman’s love letters to Hot Toys.  Dear Hot Toys, how I love thee.  Thou heart belongs to thee.  Let thou counteth the wayeth (I might as well add “modern day Shakespeare” to my resume now)…

All “kidding” aside, Hot Toys really does kill it.  And they kill it in style with their Black Widow 1/6^th scale figure from the movie, the Avengers.

I put this figure on Sideshow Collectibles ez pre-order payment plan shortly after she was announced by Hot Toys.  And by “shortly after”, I really mean “seconds” after she was announced she was for sale (Thanks Sideshow Collectibles!).

While Hot Toys’ first go round at Black Widow (from their Iron Man 2 collection), may have left a lot to be desired, they certainly got their act together for this new release.

The detail on her is flipping awesome, from the SHIELD emblems on her uni to the mole on Scarlett Johansson’s cheek.  Hot Toys takes the time to do these things right.  Black Widow’s costume is made of some sort of textured faux leather that those magic elves Hot Toys employs must magically create.

It’s kinda sick, really.

The figure comes packaged with a whole bunch of goodies.  Multiple sets of hands, multiple weapons (those wicked cool, spring sliding guns), an extra set of “bullet bracelets” with blue “piping” to match her uni (yea…“piping”.  How often do you see that word in a toy review!?!?) and a Chitauri staff.

Which brings me to the “rooted” hair issue.  Black Widow once again comes with rooted hair (as opposed to sculpted hair like that of her male counterparts).  If you look across the internets, rooted hair seems to cause a bit of controversy.  Some folks like it, most don’t (or at least that’s how it seems).  My feelings?  Well, it works for this version of Black Widow.  It certainly didn’t work for the previously mentioned Iron Man 2 figure, though.  So, I’ll take it.

All these points aside, I know the real reason you’re reading this article.  You want to know about her “lady parts”.  And my answer to that, is this:  What is wrong with you?!?!?  This is a family show!  And I’m talking about a doll here, for mercy’s sake!  And all’s you want to know about is whether or not she’s “anatomically correct” (she’s not.  At least as far as I can tell she’s not.  I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing Scarlett Johansson…well, I should probably stop this line of thought right about here).  What’s wrong with you pervs?!?!?

BTW…I didn’t unzip her top that far down, either.  My buddy, who helps me take these toy pics, unzipped her.  Of course, I didn’t zip her back up, either.

So, who’s the perv now?

The only thing that’s really wrong with her?  Just like all the other Hot Toys figures:  the price point.  I’ve said it any number of times.  But, it certainly bares repeating here…Hot Toys kills me!

She’s not available for sale anymore.  But, you can probably get a hold of her on the secondary market for a hefty mark up.  That’s the price you pay for waiting for me to tell you to go out and get her, though.  Cause, FYI, you should.
