Action 1004 from DC features an all blue cover, showing Superman floating above a flock of honking geese.

It’s Superman, friend of Canadian Geese worldwide? Escorting Snowbirds to Florida? An imaginary story? Superman as alien in blue heaven? Heaven knows, as this scene by Steve Rude may be a fun Throwback Thursday image reminiscent of the 40’s, but doesn’t tie into anything inside the book.

Inside, we have Brian Michael Bendis on script, joined by the visual team of Ryan Sook pencils, Wade Von Grawbadger inks, and Brad Anderson on colours.

Superman, or Clark, as we might call him, is at the office. He is being hounded by a fellow ‘journalist’ who wants to uncover gossip. And now he learns that even though he can’t locate Lois, he is shown a photo of her meeting Lex Luthor! Things seem to be a little ‘off’ with Lois, who has secretly reappeared after touring space with Superman’s dad and their son. Something really off. Like why has she not told Superman that she is back??

I like the way this story is unraveling. Like a ball of yarn, or a shaggy dog story that just keeps wagging. But it’s well focused overall, not as rambling as this review, for example. So I suggest that you jump on board, as I sense that Lois and Clark may be having a ‘huggable reunion’ for now, but it ain’t all La Vie En Rose, or Happy Days Are Here Again, you know?

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
