We’re at issue 6 of Man-Eaters, the Image comic title that dares to talk about female menstruation! OMG!!

This title is admirable, for its creators’ vision and ability to prove they can deliver their concept. I’ve read each issue, and the central idea still holds weight and power. In this comic, teenage girls who experience their menstrual periods can turn into dangerous killers. Killing men, boys, and women. Wild animals.

This time around, it’s father and daughter time. It’s sensitively portrayed, with concerned dad trying to offer support to his teenage daughter. And that’s completely normal, except perhaps for the human-shaped unicorn sitting on the floor next to her bed. THIS is why Man-Eaters is so fascinating. It’s warm, off-the-wall, in-the-stall, wall-to-wall wacky and horrifying at the same time. Filled with paranoia, gal-friendly dialogue, and truly powerful creative energy.

Writer is Chelsea Cain, Pencils by Kate Niemczyk, Colourist is Rachelle Rosenberg. Ads, cover design and additional art by Lia Miternique.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
