DC’s Wonder Woman takes a new turn with issue 69, embarking on a new story arc.

It’s all about cupids, love and the chirping of spring birds. But the appearance of love can be deceiving, when a town is suddenly twisted and infected with uncontrolled lust!

Our hero Diana has promised to help the god Aphrodite find her son, Atlantiades. She isn’t expecting to find shocking spring scenes instead!

‘Love Is A Battlefield’ (nicely done retro title!) is an entertaining tale by ongoing writer G. Willow Wilson, with illustration by Xermanico and colouring by Romulo Fajardo Jr.

The visuals here are truly beautiful. When Wonder Woman is airborne, there is a sense of floating in mid-air that is so well captured. The lighting is superb, lending a realistic and believable feel to the events. It’s a colourful palette, applied with taste. The final page is especially breathtaking.

This issue is a good jumping in point for potential readers of Wonder Woman.

DC Wonder Woman #69, $3.99 for 22 pages of content. Rated Teen

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
