Image Comics’ Man-Eaters ‘Tomorrow Belongs to You’ is not a comic book. Rather, it’s an apology campaign mailing. A one-shot special edition.

What if you had been awarded $800 in a class-action settlement from The Patriarchy Apology Fund. You see, marketing has suggested that Pantherism is dangerous. But the efforts made by Estro Corp Enterprises to have women suppress menstruation ‘have been misguided’. They are sorry, and now they are apologizing.

It’s wonderfully produced by writer Chelsea Cain and artist Lia Miternique.

This publication (remember, it is NOT a comic with sequential art and a story and that kind of stuff) is absolutely brilliant. Sassy, perceptive, critical, cynical and sarcastic. The $800 payout is all there in simulated US currency, along with coupons and other documents. There’s an apology card, an overly-sincere Official Statement, Coupons for lots of thoughtful things like a glass of Chardonnay *one 8 ounce glass, at a participating 7-Eleven of your choice. And a legal document to sign.

Seriously, this parody goes on and on, with all sorts of well-parodied materials that are included in the settlement. It makes for hilarious tongue-in-cheek reading.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
