Black Friday, the dark tale of retail woe, reemerges with issue 2 from Scout’s Black Caravan imprint.

Written (and coloured) by Jon Clark, the tale so far is that Star-Mart, the big box store, had some large and scary beings break-in from under the floor. These monsters are very hungry. It appears they like eating humans raw, without condiments, preservatives or garnish. No mention of their preference of antibiotics, vaccines, etc.

So now, the game at Star-Mart for the startled employees is to survive. Simply get out of the store before being eaten alive. Easier said than done, folks.

It’s a simple concept, perhaps, but so well-orchestrated. So filled with gooey horror, so packed with office politics and protein, so syrupy bloody. The scratchy and splattered art by Travis Williamson is spectacular for its graphic gruesomeness. It’s a messy messy aisle-length adventure, as we venture into retail scariness with Javier and the gang! Letters by April Brown.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
