Young readers will especially appreciate Marvel Action: Origins #3 from Marvel and IDW.

This issue is all about the origins of The Hulk and Venom. Christopher Eliopoulos writes a dramatic story around the origins of each of them, and Lanna Souvanny’s art is dynamic and easy to follow. (Letters by Shawn Lee).

And this is no simple praise; to summarize and simplify the Hulk and Venom origins for the benefit of today’s younger readers requires some care. Hulk, for example, has been around since the early 60’s. How do you keep the characters and actions relevant and entertaining in 2021? And as for Venom, hey, I appreciate reading about his origin. I actually don’t know much about Venom, so this was an ideal introduction.

Without delving into story details, let’s just say that the two stories read smoothly, are easily understood, and the art is appropriate for the audience: the characters show emotion, the visual flow makes sense, the action scenes are fun and entertaining. And that’s what we’re here for!!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
